Ronald McDonald House Charities built a new purpose designed building to accommodate the families of children undergoing intensive treatment at the Perth Children’s Hospital on the QEII site in Nedlands.

At the time of opening the new house, Ronald McDonald House Charities had been providing families of seriously ill children from regional and remote Western Australia with accommodation for more than 25 years. This mostly volunteer-driven facility has earned a reputation as a trusted and credible local organisation. The previous facility in Subiaco had 18 rooms accommodating a maximum of 72 people. The new facility provides accommodation for up to 190 people (at full capacity) through the provision of 47 apartments.

The new building is four stories with basement parking and a roof top terrace. Other inclusions are: communal lounge and dining area; state of the art commercial kitchen; function room; recreation area; gym, and smaller breakout areas located on each floor.

Funding for the new building has been generously provided by donations from several of Perth’s most prominent philanthropists and from the generosity of the Western Australian public through the “Stronger Together” campaign, with pledges made totalling approximately $30M.

IPS’ role was to assist RMH through the design and procurement process to ensure that the specific design brief required by RMH was met, as well as providing project management and superintendence services to the project.

Construction of the building commenced in April 2014, with practical completion achieved on 23 October 2015. The house was opened by the Premier on 4 December 2015. First occupants arrived on 9 December 2015. The project was a great success and will be enjoyed by many regional families for a long time to come.
